Roanoke, VA -Roanoke native and Phoenix Suns star guard Troy Daniels tipped off his 3rd annual basketball camp Thursday over at William Fleming High School. Troy Daniels basketball camp has not just seen an increase in campers over the last three years…its seen a large increase in girl campers. Daniels says that he tries to instill confidence in these girls while they are here at camp. “You know you want to do everything so when somebody comes and tells you that you can’t, that can really deflate the kid. So I think the biggest thing is instilling that confidence in them early and let it grow, ” said Troy Daniels. The girls and boys are mixed together on the same teams at camps and Trinity Beedlove finds it encouraging. “Everybody is kind of on the same level and they all want to work for something better. So when working with guys i just see them as a bigger competition to work against. I think that is why he puts us all together he’s sees us as equals and not tries to separate us,” said Beedlove. Daniels takes what he has learned with his daughter and his life growing up and uses it to mentor these girls. “I think just being a father in general you know just to nurture them you know let them know everything is going to be okay. continue to keep dreaming big and anything is possible,” said Daniels. Daniels life motto of dream big is something that sticks with these campers. “Telling you to dream big and that you can to let no one say that you can’t do it,” Beedlove. Daniels knows if these girls keep working, they can keep working they can achieve everything they hope for. “Never give up. sometimes you know everything is not going to work in your favor, but you got to keep working and keep grinding and know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Daniels. Daniels message to the girls is that they can do anything the boys can do.
