PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Pittsylvania County Fire Marshal has released an update regarding the NorthPointe Apartment fire.

As we previously reported, a building in the 600 block of North Pointe Lane, in the NorthPointe Apartment complex went up in flames on Nov. 12 around 5 a.m. Over 100 firefighters from across Pittsylvania County were called to assist. For hours, first responders rescued residents from the building and worked to contain the fire.

The blaze was so hot, that flames began to damage the sides of a nearby building.

As a result of the fire, two people were hospitalized and 23 families were displaced according to Pittsylvania County administrator Chris Key.

With assistance from the Virginia State Police fire investigators, and the Danville Fire Marshal’s Office, officials completed an investigation. However, due to “catastrophic damage” to the apartments involved, officials ruled the cause as “undetermined.”

Officials said they do not believe that criminal acts played a role.

“The Pittsylvania County Fire Marshal’s office reserves the right to change the cause should new information and evidence be discovered,” said the Pittsylvania County Fire Marshal’s Office in a release.
