ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin is on his final campaign stretch, visiting Roanoke and the New River Valley on Wednesday.

With less than a week until Election Day, both Youngkin and his Democratic opponent, former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, are ramping up their campaigning. This comes as the latest polls show Youngkin and McAuliffe are tied.

Across the Commonwealth, Republicans are also ramping up their support for Youngkin.

In Roanoke, some of Youngkin’s biggest talking points on Wednesday, Oct. 27 were creating jobs for millions of Virginians, education, and more.

He even made promises that critical race theory will be erased from school systems and that, under his leadership, schools will never shut down again due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My job is to help businesses do it. So our plan together creates 400,000 new jobs and fosters 10,000 start-ups,” said Youngkin. “We’re going to get Virginia moving again and we can lift up all Virginians along the way.

However, in the spirit of campaigning Youngkin made sure to explain the differences between him and his opponent in the race for governor.

“It’s too expensive to live here we are talking about how to get taxes down and make it more affordable. We have a stalled-out economy here is how we are going to get it going,” said Youngkin. “All that Terry McAuliffe knows to do is to bring in all these folks that don’t live here, and give them the same old talking points for 43 years.”

Youngkin also stressed the importance of getting to the polls, urging people to go ahead and cast their ballots before the early voting deadline at on Saturday, Oct. 30.
