RIDGEWAY, Va. (WFXR) — Henry County authorities are investigating after a woman was found dead in her home.

According to Captain Wayne Davis of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a home at 36 Staples Ave in Ridgeway for a welfare check at 5:03 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a woman dead in the home. The woman has been identified as Catherine Evans McDaniel, 57, of Ridgeway.

Davis said there did not appear to be forced entry but it was too early to determine the cause of death.

“We investigate each death as suspicious until proven otherwise,” he said, adding that a medical examiner had responded to the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia.
