Update: Body of missing tuber found

GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) —

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that around 11:40 a.m. Friday the body of Joanne Hatcher was located by a kayak crew during the recovery search.

Thursday, authorities recovered the cellphone of the missing tuber, in New River. Wednesday, they found the tube she was using one mile from where she went missing.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office says 57-year-old Hatcher, from Sparta, North Carolina, went missing around 3:45 Wednesday afternoon while floating along the New River near the Virginia, North Carolina state line.

Hatcher missed her get out point and was separated from the friend she was floating with.

Hatcher was spotted a short time after she went missing by a group of campers who said they saw her attempting to paddle with her hands towards the bank. They said she was not signaling for help.

She was last seen wearing a pink top and blue bottoms. Authorities said she could not swim.
