Woman charged after alleged assault at day care in Salem

SALEM, Va. (WFXR)– A 21-year-old from Roanoke has been charged with simple assault and battery after striking a child at a day care facility, according to a release from the Salem Police Department.

Police were called out to the facility on the 2000 block of Roanoke Boulevard Tuesday, where a child’s mother told them an adult female teacher had assaulted her son there.

Further investigation confirmed the child had been truck by a teacher at the facility.

JayNeva U. Franklin was served with a simple assault summons, and released on her promise to appear in court.
