PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Volvo Truck’s New River Valley plant donated a fire truck to Pulaski County.

The tanker truck, named “Tanker 33,” was built to fight fires for the New River Valley facility in Dublin.

The 43-foot long tanker can pump up to 2,000 gallons per minute and has a foam dispensing ability.

“Tanker 33” was first thought of in 2013 by truck builders at the plant who were considering backup options for protecting the plant from fires. Several builders also serve the community as volunteer firefighters.

“Pulaski County is accustomed to Volvo Trucks contributing to the greater good of the community in so many ways, but it is instances such as this that go above and beyond what we would ever expect from our corporate citizens,s” said Pulaski County Administrator Jonathan D. Sweet.

“Tanker 33” will be stationed at the Newbern Fire House, one of the primary responding fire houses for domestic, industrial and interstate fire response in the NRV.

Finishing touches were put on the truck in 2017.
