Volunteers fix up local neighborhood

News

A group of volunteers are showing that they’re good neighbors as they work on a home on Lafayette Boulevard in Roanoke.

The Christian volunteer group, World Changers, is comprised of students and adults. They take part in different projects around the country.

“We can look at it as just another task” said Zeke Teehan, one of the volunteers. “But the biggest thing to me is we’re showing the love of the Lord to these people through everything that we do — just every time we glue something together, cut something.”

Volunteers helped replace windows and doors, update house siding, and perform interior home repairs. These are just a few of the projects they took on.

One specific project the group worked on Wednesday was a new deck for an elderly person.

“It’s a blessing to be able to see the expression people have on their face when they get to see what we’re doing and how we’re serving them.”

The group will be in the Roanoke are for five days to continue their volunteer work.

“It’s very pleasing to see, and it just brings a lot of joy to your soul to be able to experience something like that” said Teehan.
