A woman claims her dog was attacked and killed at the Oceanfront by two unleashed dogs.
Animal Control has confirmed it’s investigating the death.
The dog owner, Nikki Williams, says it all happened Friday night on the beach near 55th Street.
She says she noticed an animal running towards her and her 11-year-old dog Blizzard, so she tugged on Blizzard’s leash and began to head back home.
“The dog just ran up and grabbed him around the middle with his mouth, and then the other dog came up and grabbed him at the back, and I just started screaming and trying to pull him back,” said Williams.
After a few moments, the dogs’ owner jumped in to help.
“The owner came running up and just dove on top of them and started trying to pry the dogs, sorry, started trying to pry the dog’s mouth off, but it wouldn’t budge,” Williams said.
Williams started running towards people outside of a few nearby houses, screaming for help.
Onlookers alerted Williams that the dogs and their owner had run away.
That’s when she noticed Blizzard limping away from the water, bleeding and battered.
She rushed him to the vet.
“They did X-rays and ran tests and they said they think it was the initial bite, it pulled all of his organs lose so he didn’t make it.”
Animal Control officials say there is an ongoing investigation to find the owner and his dogs.
“I just hope that they can catch this guy and those dogs because I don’t think this should happen to anybody else,” she added.
Williams describes the owner as a 6 foot tall male with black hair and a large build, and the dogs as two brindle colored pit bull type dogs.
She says there is a $500 reward for whoever can provide information that leads police to the owner.
Officials say right now they have a few leads, and have increased patrols in the area.
Animal Control officials say there may have been a prior incident with the exact same description.
