BUCHANAN, VA(WFXR) — Healing Heroes Through Horses — it’s a refrain you’ve probably heard here in our region. It’s part of the motto of New Freedom farm. Those who come to the non-profit may have anything from a traumatic brain injury to P-T-S-D — but between the horses and their fellow veterans — there’s help for this healing journey from all sides.
When you hear the phrase……22 Too Many……. it represents the number of veterans who take their lives per day. Navy veteran Lois Dawn Magill had someone close to her become part of that statistic….it push her to do something to stop this trend of veteran suicide through her New Freedom Farm organization. The veterans making a visit to the Buchanan farm gets therapy for a traumatic brain injury to PTSD by bonding with the wild mustangs.
WFXR is a proud media sponsor for the upcoming fifth annual Freedom Fest at New Freedom Farm. The April 22-23 celebration features a silent auction – live music – and even a formation flyover. Tickets are $8.00 — but kids 17 and under get in for free.
