ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Carilion nursing assistant killed on Sunday, July 21, 2019 is being laid to rest today.
24-year-old Carilion Salonya Evans, of Roanoke, was found dead in the 900 block of Morehead Avenue SE just after 1 a.m.
According to the search warrants, police say when they were on scene Evans’ boyfriend told police he had just arrived home to discover it had been broken into and his live-in girlfriend was missing.
“Hearing that, that made me even more… I’m not…. I wouldn’t say necessarily scared, but it just makes me uneasy,” said neighbor Jasper Henderson. Pastor Charles Wilson
Police are now looking to gather evidence from a cell phone, tablet device, and firearm from the home that Evans and her boyfriend supposedly shared.
After the shooting, Henderson says things have been different on Morehead street since the shooting.
“I came home the other night, my friend was dropping me off and there was somebody walking down the street and as I walked up the steps I felt kind of uncomfortable,” Henderson said.
It’s a change city leaders want to stop. They’re holding a prayer vigil Friday night for all shooting victims and to stop gun violence.
“Each life is extremely valuable and precious and everyone deserves dignity. So this one broke everyone’s heart but each time I hear there’s a shooting I think we all feel the same thing, the precious babies in this community deserve to have a flourishing life,” said Pastor Charles Wilson.
Police have not released any information about a suspect or a possible motive in the shooting.
