SALEM, Va. (WFXR) A former Salem bus driver was sentenced to jail, after being found guilty of assaulting a teenage girl.

70-year-old Johnny P. Couch was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and assault and battery.

The charges stem from a phone call police received on January 14, 2019.

The caller claimed her daughter had been attacked by a man while she was at work. Her daughter told her mother she knew the man.

Monday, a judge sentenced Couch to six months with five months and twenty days suspended for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and twelve months with eleven months and fifteen days suspended for assault and battery. He will serve a total of twenty-five days behind bars.

Couch is no longer a bus driver.
