Teen who barricaded himself inside home faces charges

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The teen who barricaded himself inside a Roanoke home is facing charges.

Around 6:30P p.m. Sunday evening, police were called to the 5900 block of Dairy Rd. for a barricaded subject. When they arrived on the scene, they found a guy had locked himself inside of a home. Witness told the police, the guy does not live in the house and he was also in possession of a gun. Police tried talking to the teen, but he refused to talk to them.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. the young man surrendered and was taken into custody. Police recovered a gun from the house.

Authorities believe he was involved in numerous thefts from vehicles on July 27, 2019, in the Penn Forest and Buck Mountain Rd. area of Roanoke. Detectives are still looking into whether or not the gun is stolen.

Police are seeking the following charges related to thefts.

Possession of firearm under age 18
Tampering with a vehicle (37 counts)
Misdemeanor Larceny (10 counts)
Unlawfully cover face to conceal identity
Larceny of a firearm

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
