A new study finds there is more that needs to be done when it to recruiting skilled employees in the region.
Officials from Roanoke, New River Valley, and Lynchburg conducted a survey to see just how many students who graduate from colleges and universities around the area actually stay and work in the region after college.
They found just 18 percent of students were considering to job search in the region.
Officials say they would obviously like that number to be higher and have some solutions to try to retain that talent in the area.
“Helping employers throughout our regions connect with students and helping the students to know that we’re more than just a great place to go to college, that there are meaningful career opportunities to consider,” said Charlie Jewell, Onward New River Valley.
The goal of this data is to figure out how businesses can recruit more talent from local colleges and universities.
