Storm damages homes, property in Wirtz

WIRTZ, Va. (WFXR News) – Storms tore through the area Tuesday and parts of Franklin County got hit really hard.

The storms brought strong winds, hail, lightning and downed trees and damaged homes in Wirtz.

Phillip Dillion says he strong winds knocked down this tree in his front yard.

“It’s like the wind was coming from everywhere,” said Dillion.

He says the storm also tore shingles off his roof and he even says lighting hit his home and blew out three TVs.

Just down the street, the wind took the roof of his neighbor’s shed.

“The wind was the worst I ever saw it. I’ve been living here 45 years,” said Dillion.

Now, he’s left picking up the pieces.

“Hope I don’t have to go through this again. But it could have been a lot worse, I guess. A lot of people have things a lot worse than this happen,” Dillion said.

He says he’s going to use a chainsaw to break down this tree, and hopefully use it for firewood. And he’s going to have to replace his TVs.
