Police: Person found dead in SUV pulled from water in Va. Beach neighborhood

State News

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say one person was found dead inside an SUV that was submerged in water in Virginia Beach’s Ocean Lakes neighborhood early Friday morning.

Virginia Beach police said in a news release the city’s emergency communications received a call around 5 a.m. from someone who said they saw a vehicle drive straight into a lake at the intersection of Bold Ruler and Firefall drives.

Responding officers, firefighters and EMS staff could not locate the vehicle from the shore. The Virginia Beach Fire Department deployed boats as the EMS Marine Rescue Team used a sonar scanner to find the vehicle.

Divers found the vehicle, an SUV, and one person dead inside.

Video from WAVY’s Rob Coble showed dive teams in the water and crews working to hoist the SUV out of the water.

Bold Ruler was closed between Davinci and Sword Dancer drives as authorities investigated the scene. The road was reopened around 11 a.m., according to a tweet from police.
