ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR News) Customers of Save-A-Lot on Melrose Ave expecting to shop for groceries were disappointed to find a darkened store, empty shelves, and sign from the owner taped to the door Sunday.
The closure of the discount supermarket chain limits food options for the community because there are limited grocery store options in the area.
“When I heard it, I thought you know maybe they were going out of business over the next couple weeks, not all of a sudden,” customer and local resident Samaria Lee said, “I didn’t think it was going to be so fast.”
She says most people who live in the area relied on this Save-A-Lot because of its accessible location and discount prices.
There are currently no plans for the vacant building, but residents are hopeful that a similar business will buy the property.
