House fire Tuesday night displaces four in Salem

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 6 Bowman Avenue this evening just before 8 p.m.

Four people were at home when the fire broke out and one person was taken by ambulance to LewisGale Medical Center for minor smoke inhalation.

Fire crews arrived at the scene four minutes after receiving the call and found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters entered the home and found a fire in the basement.

The fire was brought under control within 13 minutes.

The building did sustain fire and smoke damage. The fire was contained to the basement.

The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.

There is no estimate on the damage from the fire.

The displaced residents are receiving assistance from family.
