Roanoke’s Dr Pepper Day draws a crowd

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – 10/24/19 is Dr Pepper Day in Roanoke! The date is chosen to honor the 10, 2, and 4 slogan! The beverage’s slogan was created as a call for those in a 10 a.m, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm energy slump to reach for the beverage for a pick-me-up!

So… what is Roanoke’s connection to the 23 flavors all-in-one beverage?

The original Dr. Pepper’s drug store began in Rural Retreat, VA in the 1800s by Dr. Charles T. Pepper. The actual Dr Pepper beverage is said to be named after him by his former employee and Christiansburg native, Wade Morrison, and Morrison’s Waco, TX business partner.

Dr Pepper Day was a sight to see in Roanoke’s Market Square. A line continuously stretched along the downtown Market Square Street, where fans near and far waited for a complimentary t-shirt and cold Dr Pepper beverage as music played.

WFXR was a proud sponsor of the event and thrilled to help in paying tribute to Dr Pepper, a longtime community staple.
