ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a phone scam where the scammer will claim to be with the sheriff’s office.
Authorities say that several City of Roanoke residents have called the Roanoke Sheriff’s Office about this scam. Someone claiming to be a deputy would tell them that they have missed jury duty or have a failure to appear, and need to deposit money into bank accounts.
The Roanoke Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that deputies will not contact you by phone regarding court documents.
If someone contacts you telling you that they are with our department and you owe money for missing court, etc, please call our Civil Division at (504) 853-2721 with any questions.
