Rescue pet deemed Grand Marshal for First Pawpalooza Parade

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Rescue dog Cooper has been granted the high honor of Grand Marshal for the first-ever Roanoke Pawpalooza Parade.

The Pawpalooza Parade will be July 20 in Highland Park, and is a celebration of dogs and their owners.

This parade is a fundraiser to help Angels of Assisi move forward in their plans to expand into a new facility on Elm and Franklin.

Participants can register for a small fee. All proceeds will benefit the shelter animals of Angels of Assisi.

Cooper will be available for adoption after the parade. He was part of a mass rescue involving 73 dogs and cats in South Carolina. He’s been with Angels for a year now.

This parade is sponsored by the Old Southwest Neighborhood Association Incorporate. The organization’s goal is to raise at least $5,000 for Angels of Assisi.

The parade begins at 9. Judges will recognize dogs that could fall into categories such as “most likely to win the Nobel Prize” or “Most likely to steal your lunch.”

Registration starts at $12.50. The event is rain or shine.
