CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield Fire crews responded to a plane crash Sunday afternoon.
When crews arrived at Chesterfield Airport they found the crashed plane was approximately 100 yards off the runway, officials said.
Chesterfield Fire told 8News no one was injured and that the plane was sitting right side up.
Virginia State Police will be handling the investigation. Troopers add that just before 1:20 p.m., VSP responded to the 7500 block Airfield Drive, for a “single-engine plane that had the landing gear collapse upon landing.”
The plane landed in the field near the airport’s runway.
The pilot, identified as Richard S. Samet, of Richmond, did not sustain injuries.
The FAA has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
