VDWR: Bird disease confined to areas north of SWVA

Virginia News

(WFXR) – Recently, WFXR News spotlighted a mystery disease that has been affecting birds in the region which has caused the birds’ eyes to swell and form a crusty discharge.

Many of the birds inflicted with this disease have died.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (VDWR) says none of the diseased birds have been found in southwest Virginia.

So far, the disease appears to be confined to the northern Virginia region; however, wildlife officials are urging those residents not to load their bird feeders because birds can spread disease when they congregate at feeders.
