RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – Many of us are baking in the summer heat, so it’s important to know preventative measures that you can take to avoid dealing with a heat-related illness.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management says that the best thing to do is to stay hydrated with plenty of water.
Also, if you can remain in an air-conditioned place during peak-heating hours, that will also help in keeping yourself cool.
But if you have to be outside, try and avoid direct sunlight, wear light-weight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks.
