Suspect in custody following ‘gun disturbance’ at Ikea in Norfolk, police say

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Norfolk have arrested a suspect following a gun disturbance at Ikea.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the store in the 6000 block of Northampton Boulevard.

No injuries have been reported, but police are asking people to avoid the area while they continue to investigate the incident.

Shortly after the incident, Ikea released the following statement:

Our priority is the safety of our customers and co-workers, and the IKEA Norfolk store will remain closed for today. We are fully cooperating with the local authorities and ask that you direct all questions to the Norfolk Police Department.
