(WFXR) –Some hardworking puppies have qualified to be a part of Virginia State Police’s (VSP) Narcotics K-9 Academy.

VSP held recently held tryouts to be part of the best K-9 team in the Commonwealth.

Troopers say the pups had a long day of playing fetch, trekking up and down stairs, looking inside cars, and even into bathroom stalls.

VSP says, in the end, six dogs made the cut.

The agency says VSP K-9s will not be trained to detect marijuana due to the passage of new legislation. VSP will retire several K-9s who are currently serving.
