(WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Federal Highway Administration have awarded funding for nine trail projects that will give nature-lovers across Virginia more places to explore and exercise.

Funding for the nine projects is being provided through match-reimbursement grants via the Recreational Trails Program (RTP). RTP is an 80%-20% matching reimbursement program established for developing and maintaining recreational trails and trail-related facilities.

More than $2 million in RTP funds will go towards the nine trail projects.

The nine trail projects span the entire state but several are located close to home here in Southwest Virginia. Below, all nine trail projects selected for Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants in Virginia are listed.
