Gov. Northam orders flags flown at half-staff in honor of former Sen. John Warner on day of funeral

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – Gov. Ralph Northam has ordered Commonwealth of Virginia flags to be flown at half-staff in respect and memory of former U.S. Sen. and Secretary of the Navy John Warner as he is laid to rest on Wednesday.

“I hereby order that the flag shall be lowered at sunrise on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, and remain at half-staff until sunset.”

Warner represented Virginia from 1979 to 2009 and served as Secretary of the Navy under President Richard Nixon.

The former senator died of natural causes on May 25.

Warner’s funeral is set to be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23 at the Washington National Cathedral. President Joe Biden will attend at make remarks at the ceremony.
