ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline (GSVSC) announced an $800,000 donation from Jeff Bezos’ former wife and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
The Girl Scouts say the gift is part of an 84.5 million dollar donation to the national organization and 29 local councils selected by Scott. They say this is the largest donation from one person in the organization’s history.
“We are incredibly thankful to MacKenzie Scott for her support and belief in the Girl Scout Movement,” explained GSVSC’s CEO Nikki Williams. “Her investment will support membership retention and growth in the Virginia Skyline area as well as help us increase our innovated programming and volunteer systems.”
The Girl Scouts say the gift will bring more leadership opportunities for girls and further the organizations mission.
