(WFXR) — Pets all over the nation and the commonwealth are in search of homes for the holidays and one event is working to do just that.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) is hosting its “Empty the Shelters” Holiday Hope event this season from Dec. 1 through Dec. 11. The foundation says they are partnering with over 200 shelters in 43 states — including Virginia, to help homeless pets find their forever homes.

“Shelters are overcrowded and in desperate need of support due to slowed adoption rates and increased length of stay for pets,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation.

According to a press release, this adoption event has helped over 100,000 pets find a home nationwide. Adoption fees during the event will be reduced to $50 or less. The foundation says all pets will be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped.

  • Middleburg-Humane Foundation
  • Pittsylvania Pet Center
  • Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection
  • Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA
  • Shenandoah Valley Animal Service Center
  • SPCA of Martinsville & Henry County
