Del. Sam Rasoul’s bill giving students one excused absence per year to engage in civic, political event passes House

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Students across the Commonwealth could get excused time off to protest.

House Bill 1940 was proposed by Roanoke Del. Sam Rasoul and would give students one excused absence per school year to students who choose to engage in a civic or political event.

Last year, the state’s largest school district in Fairfax County, allowed students one excused day off to protest.

The Bill has passed the House and was referred to the Committee on Education and Health by the Senate.
