Charges pending after Tuesday morning crash involving Smyth County school bus

SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police say charges are pending after a car crashed into a school bus with 17 elementary schoolers on board in Smyth County Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, Virginia State Police say they responded to a crash involving a Smyth County school bus in the 2000 block of Lee Highway.

According to police, a Honda Civic drove into the back of the school bus — which had 17 elementary school students on board — while the bus was stopping to pick up a student.

The driver of the Honda was reportedly brought to Smyth County Hospital for treatment.

In addition, the driver of the bus and one student were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Virginia State Police.

Police say charges are pending in connection with the ongoing investigation into this crash.
