POCAHONTAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WFXR) — Despite the recent mild temperatures, Snowshoe Resort already has a little less than 50 percent of their trails open for skiers to enjoy.
This is thanks to the resort’s snowmaking machines.
“We have invested millions of dollars into our snowmaking infrastructure in recent years and that has really paid off with this mild start to the winter that we’re having,” said Marketing and Public Relations Manager Shawn Cassell for Snowshoe Mountain Resort, who spoke with WFXR News’ Amanda Kenney.
Cassell says the snowmaking machines can do wonders with just two to three days of cold temperatures. In previous years before the snowmaking machines, only a fraction of the trails they have open now would be available for skiers.
So when is the best time to hit the slopes?
“Midweek is usually pretty safe. You can get those a little later in the game. But if you’re planning on coming up during the weekend or a holiday, I would get those tickets as soon as possible,” said Cassell. “We do have a cap on the total number of tickets we sell for any given day.”
Cassell says their season usually stays steady through the end of March.
