ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Locally milled flour, fresh Homestead Creamery milk, soft butter, and a whole lotta love are the key ingredients in Roanoke’s famous strawberry shortcakes.
This spring marks the Community School’s 43rd annual Strawberry Festival. While the community is still a month away from devouring homemade goodies, volunteers are already beginning to knead and roll dough.
On April 6th, more than 50 volunteers will prepare over 10,000 shortcakes for this year’s festival. Parents, school staff, alumni, and community members, together contribute more than 2,400 volunteer hours to make this event possible.
This year’s Strawberry Festival will take place on the first weekend in May at Elmwood Park. For more information regarding the event, visit their website here.
