Protesters arrested after chaining themselves to pipeline equipment

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) – Two individuals were arrested in Franklin County on Thursday after Mountain Valley Pipeline security personnel found them chained to a piece of equipment.

Amory L. Zhou-Kourvo, 19 of Ann Arbor, MI and Melissa M. Dubois of Worchester, MA were charged with Trespassing and Tampering with a Vehicle.

An additional 4-5 people were standing in the roadway nearby protesting. Virginia State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and were asked to leave and obtain a demonstration permit. Those protesters left the scene without incident. Zhou-Kourvo and Dubois appeared fatigued, so deputies called in the Franklin County Department of Public Safety to assess them for any medical issues.

Zhou-Korvo and Dubois were safely removed from the equipment and subsequently arrested.

Dubois was released on $1,500 bond. Zhou-Kourvo is currently being held without bond.
