LYNCHBURG Va. (WFXR) — Sedora Booker started the O. Booker Legacy Foundation in October 2020, to honor her late grandfather.

The Heritage High School graduate and Virginia State University student has a heart for giving back. She says her grandfather taught her to love community service and that’s what the foundation is all about.

“He was my best friend. He literally embodied the community service aspect of what’s inside of me,” said Sedora.

The foundation hosts an annual toy drive for Christmas and the 2022 holiday season marks the foundation’s third.

“He really instilled in me the power of community service and giving back to your community,” said Sedora.

According to Sedora, she got the idea because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“People didn’t have the means to do what they needed to do and if they did they were going towards bills. They weren’t going towards extra things for their children,” said Sedora.

In 2022, she’s hoping to make the drive bigger than ever. However, she needs community members to help. Sedora is currently collecting toys for kids of all ages. They’ll be given out to families in need during the third annual Little Legacy Toy Drive scheduled for December 17. The drive is taking place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the basement of Fifth Street Baptist Church, in Lynchburg.

Registration is required for families who are looking to pick up gifts for their children.
