DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR)— The Danville Police Department has started a number of programs over the years to help connect with the community.

One way officers connect is through the department’s “Back 2 Back” program. That’s where they engage with students as they arrive at school.

“We partner with all of the schools locally, public and private schools, and go out and engage with youth; children from elementary school all the way through high school. We’re focusing on different issues at different ages,” said Captain Steve Richardson.

Those partnerships allow officers to foster relationships with students and let them know they’re there to help them.
