BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR)— A business in the town of Bedford is working to make sure people in need have accessories to keep them warm this winter.

Erika McFaden is heading up the initiative. The owner of Stitch Witch of Bedford said, “Be Warm, Bedford is my iteration of a program that was kind of started by a yarn shop that was here about seven or eight years ago.”

According to McFaden, she opened her store about a year and a half ago. She says soon after, people began asking if she was going to take donations of scarves and hats to hang for people in need.

“I had so many requests for it I thought well, let’s bring that back,” said McFaden.

Handmade scarves, mittens, and hats now hang on the fence of McFaden’s neighbor, LJ’s Gift Cottage. Anyone who is in need can take a bag of items.

People who would like to donate handmade items to the program can drop them off at Stitch Witch of Bedford.
