Portions of 9th Street in downtown Lynchburg to temporarily close

Motorists will find some delays at the roundabout at Atlanta Avenue and Badcock Place on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – For approximately two weeks, starting Sunday, August 11 until around Friday, August 23, Ninth Street (between Main Street and the alley behind City Hall) will be closed to through traffic due to installation of new underground equipment including new water and sewer service lines.

On Sunday, August 11, Appalachian Power will install a new underground transformer in the new underground vault which was recently installed on Ninth Street.

Then on Monday, August 12, crews from the Department of Water Resources will install new water and sewer lines to the Krise Building at the corner of Ninth and Main Streets in downtown.

Through the duration of the project, traffic will not be allowed through this area; though, vehicles will still have access to the parking lot across Ninth Street from City Hall as well as the alley behind City Hall from Church Street.

The sidewalk adjacent to the Krise Building on the west side of Ninth Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic.
