Police officer uninjured after patrol struck by bullet

ROANOKE Va. (WFXR) A police officer is okay after the patrol car he was driving was hit by a bullet.

Roanoke Police responded to two shots fired incidents overnight. Both shootings occured within a quarter mile of each other.

Around 12:15 a.m. an officer heard several shots fired while patrolling in the 1200 block of Orange Avenue NW. He located several people along the intersection of 13th Street and Hanover Avenue NW.

According to witnesses, a vehicle drove by firing several rounds into the air and left the area. Although the vehicle was not located by the officer, several shell casing were found at the scene.

At 2:30 a.m., the same officer heard more gunshots in the 600 block of 12th Street NW. Upon investigation, the officer found a bullet in the radiator of his patrol car. The officer was not injured and the patrol car was taken out of service.

Additional officers responded to the area in search of the shooter. While no shooter was found, they did discover more shell casings.

No one has been arrested and the incident is still under investigation.
