Police situation at motel in Henry County results in arrest

News

UPDATE – 7:15 p.m. — The earlier police activity at the Kings Court Motel in Ridgeway, Henry County involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service attempting to serve administration paperwork on the manager of the motel.

During the attempt, the person became uncooperative and began to barricade himself inside of the motel. It was also discovered that a female also was inside where he barricaded himself. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a second call that the female was being held hostage inside of the motel. Members of the Sheriff’s Office as well as the SWAT team and negotiators worked to get the individuals out. At times, the male suspect would come to the window and offer minimal communications but despite requests, he would not come out. Later, the female came to the window and indicated she was scared and he would not let her come out. Just before SWAT team members were preparing to gain entry, the female was able to safely escape. Negotiators continued to make numerous attempts through a variety of methods to contact the suspect for approximately four-and-a-half hours. The suspect continued to refuse to communicate.

Ultimately, Ravindra H. Patel, 50, of 6570 Greensboro Road, Kings Court Motel in Ridgeway was arrested and charged with abduction and obstruction of justice. He is currently being held without bond at Henry County Jail.
