PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Matthew Bernard’s arraignment took place at around 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
He was officially read the charges against him, which include three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.
The judge approved an order for a competency and sanity evaluation for Bernard to occur before Oct. 31, 2019, at 8:30 a.m.
Attorney James C. Martin has been appointed to represent Bernard in this case.
Bernard’s next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 6 at 9 a.m.
