Photo contest winners announced by SML Regional Chamber

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce announced on Wednesday, the winners of its 2019 photo contest.

The contest was open to professional and amateur photographers who could submit an unlimited number of photos in a variety of categories related to Smith Mountain Lake.

“We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the entries. It was truly hard to pick just three winners because there were so many outstanding photos. We were so thankful to everyone who participated!”

The goal, Ward said, was to accumulate photos to showcase the beauty, the variety of people, activities and events on and around Smith Mountain Lake.

Grand Prize Winner,

The grand prize winner, David B. Pope won $300 for his image featuring a woman water skiing.

The second place winner, Amy Hunter, won $150 for her viral image of rare Helmholtz clouds.

The honorable mention winner, Kathleen Riordan, won $50 for her image of fog over the lake.

Ward said many of the photos they received will be used in the 2020 SML Visitor and Newcomer Guide as well as for other requests the Chamber receives from assorted tourism and media outlets.
