(WFXR) — If you’re looking to get outdoors for a hike or a scenic stroll, you’ll likely want to know where you can and can’t go. Some campgrounds, trails, and roads will be closed until spring.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service is closing or reducing services at some campgrounds and day use sites in order to prepare recreation sites for the winter season.
According to the USDA Forest Service, seasonal roads in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests will soon be closing.
You can always check ahead and visit the Forest Service recreation webpage to see what services and sites are available for use.
In addition, many seasonal roads are closed during the freeze-thaw of winter to protect road surfaces from damage. You can access an Interactive Visitor Map to learn the conditions and which Forest Service roads and trails are open to motorized travel.
