Fall in the water, save a life

Outdoors Bound

BROOKNEAL, Va. (WFXR) — The outdoors can be fun, but you and your family should always be prepared for the unexpected because situations can change in an instant.

Our own George Noleff found that out. While on a video shoot to showcase the up-and-coming fishery on the Staunton River, he lost his balance exiting a canoe and was launched into the water. Fortunately, the water was shallow and he was wearing a personal flotation device, as was everyone in the fishing party that day. No one was hurt.

“The video is pretty funny, and I can laugh about it, but it just goes to show that you can go from stable to chaos in a heartbeat out here,” said Noleff. “There are vest-style devices and inflatable devices that require you to pull a tab. Both will work great. Just make sure the devices you use are Coast Guard-approved.”
