UPDATE: Passenger rescued after being trapped under overturned tractor trailer on I-77


UPDATE (5 a.m.): A trooper on scene tells WFXR the person trapped underneath the tractor trailer has been rescued and transported to the Wythe County Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Crews will remain on scene throughout the morning to clear the scene.

(WFXR) Wythe County – One person is trapped under a tractor trailer that drove through a guardrail and overturned on I-77 in Wythe County.

According to VDOT the wreck happened on southbound I-77 near mile marker 41.

State troopers on scene tell WFXR the person trapped was a passenger in the tanker truck.

We’re told the man is conscious, alert, and in no immediate danger.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

VDOT’s incident response team is on the scene right now.

We’re told the tanker truck is carrying a non-hazardous latex based additive.

State troopers say the southbound right lane and right shoulder will be closed for several hours.

Plan for delays or take an alternate route if possible.
