ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke County Public Library is launching NextLabs at the Glenvar and Vinton locations in the next few weeks. NextLabs are designed with the most modern technology available to promote education for all ages.

At Glenvar’s location, Misty, a roving robot just over a foot tall is currently in beta testing and will give guests the opportunity to learn about Artificial Intelligence, coding and robotics. Anyone can stop by for a fun meet-and-greet with Misty and the library staff on Thursday, August 29 at 5 p.m. Glenvar is anticipating adding several other new technologies in the coming months.

At Vinton’s location, a Glowforge machine will be available for use, by appointment only. The Glowforge is a precise laser engraver for makers, crafters and small business owners. Hundreds of materials including wood, leather, fabric, cardboard and acrylic can be used with the Glowforge which is currently being tested and is slated to arrive to the Vinton library later this month.

The Glenvar library is located at 3917 Daughtery Road in Salem and the Vinton Library is located at 300 South Pollard Street in Vinton.
