FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — VDOT crews will open a portion of Hardy Road’s new bridge to traffic.
Starting Monday, July 29, drivers headed to Roanoke from Franklin County will drive over the new bridge. Traffic headed into Franklin County will continue riding on the old bridge.

The next phase of the project is removing the old bridge.

Boaters are urged to use caution as they will have to pass through a work zone in the middle of the lake by the bridge to gain access into the lake.
The bridge replacement over the Roanoke River at Smith Mountain Lake is scheduled to open to all traffic on August 1, weather pending.

Removal of the old bridge, and opening up the new bridge to traffic, will be completed in full by December.
