NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Nelson County School Board is still facing a large deficit after approving its 2019-2020 Operational Budget.

Following the budget approval, the school system was still missing $1.4M in funds to manage all projected expenditures.

The School Board decided to remove all requested new positions, place a higher cost of health care premiums on employees, remove 10.5 positions, and eliminate the Driver’s Education Behind-the-Wheel program among many other budget cuts.

Board members are still considering the removal of double bus runs in the afternoon, but that decision has not been made.

The final budget approved was $27,556,718 and was based on the 1,712 students enrolled.
