(WFXR) — From high-tech consoles to virtual reality systems, the video game industry has come a long way. However, while gamers have all the up-to-date technology, the classics are making quite the comeback.
Researchers at GetWindstream looked at characters from the 10 best-selling home video games in the 1980s and 90s. Using Google Trends, GetWindstream released a survey of which classic characters made the list for most searched characters over the past 40 years. Below is each state’s favorite character.
While Sonic came out on top according to GetWindstream, he was followed by Bowser and Bulbasaur. With Pokemon being one of the highest-grossing video game franchises of all time -- topping $90 billion -- Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle became the most searched characters in 11 states, according to the website.
Pac-Man is only popular in two states, Washington and Virginia, even though the franchise sold 44 million games. According to GetWindstream, the Great Salt Lake in Utah inspired one of the Zelda game locations in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Game.
